Letters to the Editor
After you've had the chance to listen to or read the collection of stories in The Hometown Weekly: Good News For a Change this is the place to tell the world what you think about it.
I particulary enjoyed that the author was also the narrator of this book. His intimate knowledge of the stories enhances his ability to bring the story to life.
I listened to this two CD audio book while traveling between my small predominately Mormon community in Utah to the Big City in Utah. I laughed and guffawed out loud the whole way. He did have some tender moments hidden in the stories that illustrates that even though a tidbit makes it in the news--it doesn't really tell the story.
I will be listening to this one again. These are the kinds of stories that just get better with the retelling. I hope more stories will be forth-coming.

I gave the CDs to my 81-year-old grandpa for his birthday. He loved them. His exact words were "This record is a dandy!"

I work at a small town weekly as a copy editor. I was taking a break before Christmas, checking out the new books in the LDS book store attached to the newspaper office, when I came upon Hometown Weekly. I picked it up to look at it & stood in the bookstore laughing until tears streamed down my face over the Sunbeam story.
I gave it to my 82-year-old mother for Christmas and she relates that she lay in bed laughing as she thought of the stories in the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed every page of The Hometown Weekly. It was written especially for someone LDS and from a small hometown. When I wasn't laughing out loud, there was a wide smile upon my face. Your sense of humor is just my style--from the wonderful names, to the characters and the situations that they find themselves in. I'm looking forward to the sequel

I have not laughed so hard in a long time. I grew up in a small town and can relate to much of this delightful CD. I will buy the book so that I can hear more "good news." Who needs the negative news when we can have a good laugh with the good news? When will your next CD be available? Thanks so much.

I love the CD, I'll have to get the book. I'm a big fan of Lake Wobegon, so Parley Grove is easy for me to appreciate. I particularly liked the story of the "Beautiful Women." I was so surprised to find that Svena had the courage to carry out the plan I have been telling people about for years now. Ask any of my bishops. Whenever I am asked to speak in a new ward, I always include in my talk that the bishop needs to be aware that if I die while I'm in his ward that I want all women pall bearers. Because if the guys won't take me out while I'm alive, they're not going to take me out when I'm dead. Svena -- a woman after my own heart.

I just finished listening to all of The Hometown Weekly. I say in all sincerity that Garrison Keillor has nothing, nothing on Bruce Lindsay. That is some of the most delightful, entertaining stuff that I have ever listened to. Listening to it on the CD is just terrific!

Thank you very much for your inspiring rendition of Our Home Town. You must have been sitting on the side of the Pea Vinery Road where Old Rural Route 1 delivered the mail to our house, on most days, if the road was plowed. This country farm house was near the town where Ruth Shumway taught a young bride how to put up peaches and pears. Oh the stories one can rehearse about canning time in rural America! Thanks again for your infectious stories and telling style.

A Delightful Read! Loved it so much I ordered CD's for Christmas Presents...can't think of anything better to share with friends and fam...I truly feel like I know these characters!

I am reading your "good news book" and loving it! I am very glad that I have a middle initial in my name because I, too, am trying to be more dignified. AND, I love the honesty of NonaRene. Watch out for that pistol. That's all I have read so far, but I can hardly wait for my bus ride home tonight so that I can to read about "Mothers Day."
P.S. After several chuckles on my part, the bus rider next to me this morning finally asked me "what are you reading that is so funny?" I shared. The word is spreading.

I read this book this weekend and I was practically rolling on the floor laughing!!! If you are from a small town this one is definitely for you! I checked it out from the library but I think I might have to go out and buy it for my own personal library! Our small town didn't have a newspaper like this but my brother in law from San Pete County says this is how their paper was. So I would definitely recommend it especially if you need a good laugh!

I'll tell you what I love about The Hometown Weekly. It not only makes you laugh out loud but also draws you completely into the characters lives and illustrates that whether you come from Parley Grove or New York City, we all have the same foibles and ultimately care about the same thing: the people in our lives.

Laugh out loud funny!
Lindsay tells tales of small town Utah life with wit, humor, and a tenderness that will have you always laughing and sometimes crying. If you grew up in Utah, you know someone just like the residents of Parley's Grove. You'll listen to the stories over and over. It's especially great to listen to in the car!
